
We Provide Preventive and Supportive Services
School-Based Outreach is a preventative service which assists students and their families with removing barriers that are affecting academic success and overall potential. There are assigned caseworkers in all eight school districts in Lycoming County and in the Keystone School District in Clinton County.
What is the School-Based Outreach Program?
We provide preventive and supportive services to students and their families within the school district. The School-Based Outreach Program is design to provide short-term intervention to students and their families to alleviate barriers that are affecting the student’s academic and overall potential. The service is intended to reduce the need for more formal agency interventions.
Who can refer a child to School-Based Outreach?
School staff, students, and parents may make referrals (or self-referrals).
What Services are provided by School-Based Outreach staff?
The School-Based Outreach staff provides:
Assessment
Intervention
Truancy Prevention
Referral
Individual contacts with students
Presentation to faculty and parent organizations
Crisis intervention
Summer programming
Home contact with the family
Summer Outreach Program
The goal of the Summer Outreach Program is to provide supportive services to students and their families over the summer months. Staff will work on assisting families in having positive interaction and helping the youth make positive decisions so they can transition into the upcoming school year successfully.
What are reasons to refer a child to School-Based Outreach?
Students whose academic performance or social functioning is impaired by behavior or emotional difficulties.
Children who are displaying anger, aggression, non-compliance, or truancy.
Children who are displaying withdrawn behavior, sadness, poor social skills and family dynamics.
How are referrals made to School-Based Outreach?
In the elementary grades, each school has a designated contact person to manage School-Based Outreach referrals and monitor progress. At the secondary level referrals come from each school’s Student Assistance Program which is designated to assist students with barriers that are affecting them academically and socially.
Parent permission must be obtained in writing before School-Based Outreach services can begin.
